Narva sponsors 2015 Outback Challenge

For the second year running, leading automotive lighting and electrical component company, Narva, has thrown its weight behind the Outback Challenge, as one of two major sponsors for the gruelling seven-day, off-road competition.

The internationally-recognised extreme four-wheel-drive event was first held in 1999, and is widely regarded as Australia’s toughest off-road competition.  This year’s event will run from September 25 and again be staged on private property in outback Broken Hill with 28 vehicles competing, piloted by teams from right across Australia.

The Outback Challenge tests drivers, navigators and their machines to the limits by pitting them against the most demanding off-road conditions over a series of 20 stages that will see a mixture of low and high speed driving and navigational exercises.

Competitors will face a wide range of conditions from sand dunes and rock walls to water crossings and mud where their vehicle recovery techniques will be put to the test.  The event will also include several night stages, where high quality vehicle lighting is crucial.

Outback Challenge organiser, Steve Tjepkema, himself a former participant and winner of the event, said he was thrilled that Narva was again involved as a major sponsor.

“The Outback Challenge is experiencing a strong rise in popularity, but to continue its success, it’s essential that high quality sponsors such as Narva are involved,” Steve said.

“Prominent sponsors also assists in elevating the event to the next level of professionalism – everybody with an interest in off-roading whether touring, recreational or competition, will be well aware of the Narva brand with its high standing and excellent range of products.”

According to Steve, competition aside, there are also some other important aspects to the Outback Challenge.

“As well as providing an unforgettable experience for participants and spectators, the event has aligned itself with several very worthwhile charities in 2015, including the Children’s Tumour Foundation of Australia and Buy a Bale, which provides hay to struggling farmers,” he said.

“Organisers are also keen to place a spotlight on Broken Hill and assist the local community by attracting additional tourists to the area.”

Along with being a major sponsor of the 2015 Outback Challenge, Narva will support two competition teams, providing the company with the opportunity for additional real-world testing of its products under the toughest conditions imaginable.
