Nissan V8 Patrol Y62 now in runout mode
Australians have a final opportunity to own a piece of Patrol history, with production of the V8-powered Y62 Patrol set to conclude this August, while local production of the Australian-engineered Patrol Warrior by Premcar will wrap up shortly after.
The outgoing Y62 is the last Patrol to be powered by Nissan’s 5.6-litre petrol V8. With the next-generation Y63 Patrol set to arrive in Australia later this year — bringing a new 3.5-litre V6 Twin Turbo powertrain — the Y62 run-out marks the closing chapter on more than a decade of V8 power in one of Australia’s most enduring full-size off-road SUV’s.
For more than six decades, the Nissan Patrol has been a fixture on and off Australian roads — first arriving locally in 1961 as the second-generation G60 Datsun Patrol and going on to become one of the longest-running continuous nameplates in the automotive industry.
Across five generations, more than 258,000 Patrols have been delivered to local customers, building one of the most loyal enthusiast followings of any 4WD nameplate.

A Legacy Built on Australian Terrain
Australia has played a key role in shaping the Patrol’s reputation. In September 1962 — just one year after the G60 arrived locally — geologist Reg Sprigg, his wife Griselda, and children Marg and Doug became the first to cross the Simpson Desert in a motor vehicle, charting a route over more than 1100 sand dunes that is now known as the French Line. The 12-day journey, completed at an average speed of just 5 km/h, helped establish the Patrol’s reputation for going where other vehicles could not.
That reputation was reinforced through generations of motorsport success, with the Patrol winning a record 15 consecutive Australian Off-Road Championship titles between 1983 and 1998 — the majority of them at the hands of Griffith rice farmer ‘Legend’ Les Siviour — along with four outright victories in the Australasian Safari (1992, 1993, 1995 and 2003).
The Y62, introduced locally in 2013, took the Patrol into a new era of refinement and on-road capability. Its 5.6-litre V8, fully independent suspension with Hydraulic Body Motion Control, and digital Intelligent Rear View Mirror, moved the nameplate into the upper-large SUV space while preserving the off-road credibility that has defined Patrol since 1951.
Patrol Warrior by Premcar — The Final V8 Warrior
The run-out also marks the final opportunity to secure a new Australian-engineered flagship of V8 Patrol line-up – the Warrior by Premcar.
Developed in collaboration with Melbourne-based Premcar at its dedicated Warrior production facility. Patrol Warrior takes the Y62’s V8 platform and adds purposeful upgrades for Australian conditions.
Including
- locally engineered suspension tuning,
- increased ground clearance,
- all-terrain tyres on bespoke wheels and exterior styling enhancements.
Notably, a bi-modal side-exit exhaust system gives the Patrol Warrior the perfect soundtrack. Quiet and refined while cruising. Yet unleashing a deep, unmistakable V8 note under hard acceleration.
Each Warrior is hand-finished through a secondary-stage manufacturing process and carries Nissan’s full factory warranty.
