Four Wheel Drive Buyers Guide

True affordable 4WDs were once becoming a dying species, until the plethora of Ute based wagons took off, to add to the other offerings from traditional 4WD manufacturers like Toyota and Jeep.

Historically there was only the Mitsubishi Challenger, but now there is a Ute based wagon from most of the major manufacturers. There is a fair price spread here, from around $40,000 through to $80,000, but we believe that true enthusiasts want to read about other vehicles that may spark an interest.

In the continual surge towards soft AWD SUVs, its rewarding for the enthusiasts to have affordable real 4WD’s available. Options range from the small but excessively capable Jeep Renegade Trailhawk, through to the tough as nails Toyota LandCruiser LC70 GXL Wagon. As much as any category, maybe more, we have diverse design philosophy’s represented, however they are all 4WD’s at the end of the day.

By breaking down the categories into those that best represent consumers buying decisions and parameters, the buyers guide enables consumers to compare vehicles in a logical fashion and really get a feel for each individual offering in their chosen segment. We want to keep it relevant!

Pricing comes from the industry website redbook.com.au with all vehicles adopting the Manufacturers List Price* (MLP*) as the standard. If it is unavailable, we use the manufacturers’ website pricing. *Manufacturers List Price includes GST and LCT but excluding statutory charges, dealer costs and dealer delivery. See your dealer for RDAP. Does not include price of any options.
