Description

The sub $50,000 AWD SUV segment is probably the fastest growing and most competitive segment with excellent AWD vehicles offered from any number of manufacturers. Add to these the 2WD SUV styles and it is a crowded market place indeed. We have selected what we believe is a good mixture of design philosophy, market appeal and capability for your reading pleasure. Urban warriors abound in this segment. Interestingly the Audi Q2 just slips into this segment, but if you even look sideways at the options list the price heads north at a rapid rate.

Another interesting trend has been the growth in 2WD SUV style vehicles. It appears that a growing number of consumers are looking for the SUV attributes without the want, need or desire to venture any further than the local shopping centre or cafe. This is driving the popularity of the inner city SUV like the Mazda CX-3 or Hyundai Kona or the 2WD Honda HRV. That is something we will need to look at, along with the increasing prevalence of hybrid or electric SUVs, perhaps for future issues of our buyers guides.

Our Buyers Guides are deliberately oriented at having a complete reader and consumer focus, allowing readers to easily compare different vehicles in the same category. Pricing comes from the industry website redbook.com.au with all vehicles adopting the Manufacturers List Price* (MLP*) as the standard. If it is unavailable, we use the manufacturers’ website pricing.
