The jeep Wrangler has been a favourite here for quite some time, one of those vehicles that exude a degree of “çool” as well as practical off road ability. So when the opportunity came along to test the Limited Edition X version, named after the X Games extreme sport athletes, we jumped at the chance. Unfortunately the review slipped through the cracks. What is the saying.. better late than never..
The Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited X Edition vehicles are designed for those who ‘Don’t Hold Back’ and are limited to just 70 units, Wrangler X is based on Wrangler Overland and is available in both two and four door Unlimited models. Unfortunately by the time you read this they will almost certainly be sold out.
The first thing you notice when you see the vehicle is the bright yellow colour. It certainly makes a statement. The bonnet with its power dome style that incorporates the air vents, combined with the distinctive bonnet decals are standouts. Around the traditional seven slot grill is black headlamp rings and black grill slot throats.
A body colour hard top, fender flares and grille are matched with gloss black Jeep badging, deep tint sunscreen glass and a black Mopar fuel filler door. The Wrangler X is available in four exterior colours, Bright White, Black, Firecracker Red and Baja Yellow, all of which are complemented by distinctive 18″ gloss black alloy wheels.
Step inside and the unique features of the Wrangler X continue. Black leather seats with sporty mesh fabric inserts are detailed with light slate grey stitching and an embroidered logo, while glossy ceramic white inserts distinguish the door grab handles and air vent surrounds.
The on-board comfort for all occupants is ensured by the generous level of standard equipment that includes automatic climate control, leather steering wheel with built-in controls, heated front seats, Mopar all-weather mats and a 6.5″ UconnectTM touchscreen multimedia entertainment system with GPS satellite navigation system, 40 GB hard disk and DVD player. The Wrangler X also features a reversing camera as standard equipment.
The Wrangler X is powered by the 3.6L V6 petrol that produces 209kW @ 6350rpm of power and 347Nm @ 4300rpm of torque, drives through a 5 speed automatic transmission and is a part time 4×4 with a dual range transfer case.
