Lexus LX 500d Sport 4WD 2022 Review -

LX 500d – Following on from the all new LandCruiser Lexus recently released their all new LX luxury 4WDs. Now available in twin turbocharged V6 petrol and diesel engines there are TWO models, the LX 500d, and LX 600 with some variations. They also come in a choice of 4, 5 or seven seat configurations depending on which model you choose.

The first thing you notice is the big bold front grill that has presence. The next thing you notice is inside where even the base model is luxuriously equipped. This is armchair cruising.

Little luxuries like heated front seats, four zone climate controlled A/C, power folding third row seats and large centre storage bin add to the comfort.

The version we drove this week is the LX 500d with the enhancement pack. This includes 22 inch alloy wheels, moonroof and hands free kick opening on the tailgate.

Unlike many luxury SUVs the LX is a true dual range 4WD that has the same capability as the 300 series LandCruiser. It will also tow 3500kg and I have found they are often used to tow horse floats, boats etc.

With 227kW of power and 700Nm of torque towing is easy.

We utilised the LX to tow a vehicle out to the farm and brought back a WW2 jeep we are going to recondition
The V6 diesel proved a willing tow vehicle
There was however a flat spot around 2000rpm which necessitated vigilance
The LX cruised smoothly, comfortably and quietly.
Inside it was comfort and luxury all the way
As we headed out amongst the recent deluges Sydney has been having, the traction of permanent 4WD was greatly appreciated.
As was the automatic lighting and high beam with auto levelling functionality
It was that muddy on the farm we had to wash the car before we returned it.
Little luxuries like heated seats, lumbar support, 4 zone A/C all added to the comfort.
Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto would be handy as would a HUD.
