Mercedes-Benz Australia has announced the G-Professional Cab Chassis is now available to purchase. Built at the same facility as the renowned G-Class off-roader and leveraging the decades of continuous improvement of the mighty “G-wagen’s” off-road capability.
The G-Professional Cab Chassis sets a new benchmark for carrying ability with a 2,085kg payload (4,490 kg GVM) without a tray. The “G-Pro” will reach moreplaces with the help of a reinforced chassis and suspension achieving 245 mm ground clearance; three differential locks that can be shifted to low-range on the move; 650 mm fording depth and adjustable engine speed control.
The G-Professional utilises decades of dedicated off-road experience collected in the continuous development of the “Geländewagen” to bring a new level of heavy lifting to the Cab Chassis market. External features fitted as standard include a snorkel; bull bar, headlight and indicator protection painted in black; radiator and sump shields; 16-inch alloy wheels and all-terrain tyres.
A walk-on bonnet featuring reinforcement (load limit 100kg) and a non-slip coating is available, as is a cyclonic air filter that is designed to separate dirt and dust from the air before entering the traditional panel air filter under the bonnet. Designed for drivers working in dry, dusty conditions, it includes a replacement snorkel and clear Perspex case for visual inspection of dust build-up.
Fitted with permanent all-wheel-drive with a 50:50 front-rear split, the G-Professional has a recommended maximum fording depth of 650mm; an approach angle of 38° and departure angle of 35°; and a break-over point of 22°. It has a recommended towing capacity of 2,210kg (braked) and 750kg (unbraked), and a gross vehicle mass (GVM) of 4,490kg (4.49 tonnes).
The fuel tank has a 96-litre capacity, two 12-volt batteries are fitted, as well as a tyre pressure loss warning system. A spare wheel is supplied (loose) plus two wheel chocks. No tray is supplied at the time of sale.
Inside, the G-Professional offers extreme durability and practicality with hardwearing vinyl seat covers, two water-drain plugs rubber floor mats, storage boxes under both seats, air-conditioning, armrests for both driver and passenger, and a lockable glovebox.
The G-Professional can be specified with one of two paint finishes (Polar White or Black) or one of four colour finishes, which are a no-cost option (Desert Sand, Deep Orange, Flame Red or Fir Green).
The 3.0-litre V6 turbo diesel engine powering the G-Professional is a proven performer. The G 300 CDI produces 135kW at 3800rpm and 400Nm from 1600 to 2000 rpm, sending its power via a five-speed automatic transmission.
The G-Professional Cab Chassis is fitted with an Electronic Stability Program (ESP®) with selectable on/off function, anti-lock braking system (ABS), Brake Assist (BAS), and electronic brake force distribution (EBD). Occupants of the twoseater cab are protected by a driver’s and passenger airbag, and security is taken care of by an electronic immobiliser and central locking.
